The REDD+ Unit welcomed the new Technical Advisor in November of 2017. Mr Narendra Chand originally of Nepal lives in Wellington, New Zealand. He brings with him a wealth of experience having previously worked for REDD+ in Nepal. He was also recently involved in consultancy work for the Measuring, Reporting Verification (MRV) Study for Fiji’s REDD+ Readiness phase. Narendra is in love with Fiji’s weather and working environment. He is familiar with issues and challenges related to REDD+ and working with the World Bank. “Hence my earlier experience will help to expedite Fiji’s REDD+ readiness program,” he said.
One of his first achievements in the first few weeks of work was to complete the Mid Term Review (MTR) report for the Fiji National REDD+ Programme to the World Bank.
“Only 8 days were left for the MTR submission deadline, when I joined the REDD+ advisor post therefore it was really a challenge for me to first get acquainted with Fiji’s situation and write a review report. However, the support from the REDD+ Secretariat staff was sufficient for information required to prepare the report and submit it in a timely fashion.”
Narendra is adamant at expediting the entire REDD+ readiness activities to make the country ready for REDD+ implementation. But he said this will not only be his effort alone but the entire family of the Ministry of Forests and other REDD+ relevant stakeholders essential to making the country ready for REDD+.
